Vanshika is 9 years old and lives in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She was born with unilateral clubfoot (left foot) and was left untreated. As God would have it they reside in the same apartment of a boy named Hardik who was already treated from the clubfoot clinic. Hardik’s story stirred a glimmer of hope in her; she also looked forward to the day when she could walk normally and have straight feet. In her own words: When Hardik can get straight feet, why not I? I too desire to get cured. Vanshika’s parents were accompanied by Hardik’s father to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital (MDM), Jodhpur, Rajasthan where the CURE Clubfoot clinic functions. Once in touch with the CURE counsellor who briefed them about the deformity and the treatment procedure, Vanshika’s parents were relieved. The doctor started her treatment with guidance from Dr. Alaric Aroojis, Head of the department (Orthopaedic), Baijerbai Wadia Hospital for Children, Mumbai.
She always prayed for healing. After ten casts and a tenotomy, her foot is corrected today. Vanshika is among the happiest to witness healing in her life. The parents are also elated to see their child with normal feet. They are thankful to the CURE team, the doctors and medical staff who were involved in the treatment process of Vanshika. She is now on the maintenance phase of the treatment, wearing foot abduction braces each night to help maintain the correction. The achievement for the CURE clinic at Jodhpur is this that it is the first case where a grown up child has been treated with clubfoot.
